Anchor

I looked inside me
I know I was in a dark place
My mind started racing towards thoughts of us
The good, the bad and then the ugly
I had to stop.
I had to get myself out of these thoughts
Thoughts which will swivel me further into the dark place I am in already

Every time I replay the ugly and ask Why?
Time has passed and the question is still the same
Was destiny meant for us to part?
Only to grow darker and darker as years pass on
My heart is heavy, I shed a tear or two
Tears now have washed away the pain
The memory is old and the pain too

I looked around
There! I found my Anchor
My light when my mind is dark
You dried up my tears
Filled my heart and comforted my mind
Spiralled me back to the present moment
This day where I am happy in your presence
My Anchor. I Love You.

Snap out of being a Social Media Zombie

Homo sapiens are the evolved species who over time have made the world what it is today. From haunters-gatherers-agriculturalists-trade-commerce-artists-metallurgists and the list goes on to the present day. When the World around us is changing everyday with new inventions, the present day mindset of the society at large has restricted itself to the no-brainer syndrome. There was a time when Indian population listened to All India Radio and kept themselves updated with what’s happening around them. People discussed news, talked about how to improve their present status in line with the Government policies, schemes. Next came the television era, and with it came the visual treat. Slowly and gradually, the quality of the entertainment industry, new channels changed and media took the easy way out of making the society dumb by providing them with daily soaps, paid news, reality shows, baseless competitions and hardly any quality content to cater to the growing minds.

Post the television era came Social Media! Technology in a way was created to ease life of the society. Facebook to create interaction, keep in touch with your old buddies, Internet Banking to avoid standing in long lines, take an hour or two away from work. Has social media sabotaged your life without your consent? If you take a minute or two to assess how your behaviour has changed over time you would come to realise that it’s your fancy mobile phone you would turn to to say, turn off the alarm, get your morning dose of news while you attend to nature’s call in the confines of your bathroom. Listen to music as you brush or shower. You would even go further to check your calendar to schedule your day. Turn to Instagram for updates. Well I can go on. To say the least you are hooked on to your mobile phone.  Now how much of human interaction have you had with people around you? Have you consciously finished your coffee, your breakfast, driven your car or had any real conscious emotion since you have started your day? What is the quality of discussion you will have with the first person you will interact with since your first exposure to what you have started your day with? I like to assume it’s not something deep and won’t constitute a 5 minute conversation.

I believe that the generation today has the power to switch ON things they are interested in while conveniently turning OFF what does not interest them. Updates on your friends, relatives and acquaintances is prioritised over what is happening around you. What’s trending on social media – a scam, an uproar, a breaking news which is not really of National/ International news quality is the news that you are fed with. This “news” fed to you over time dims your thought process, your analytical ability or power to choose what constitutes news. Now this is what constitutes your habit. Habit practised over time becomes your personality and your personality is finally who, what, where, why, when and how you think! You become just a slave to social media over this constant choice of information that’s fed to you. Have you ever taken a step back and really assessed what is the plight of your environment, the policies your Government is discussing in the Parliament, the pain points of the current generation and what needs to be implemented to secure the future of the next generation?

Snap out of being a social media zombie because you my fellow human was born to lead a more meaningful and qualitative life interacting with your loved ones and helping your next generation on things to think. Improve the way you use technology and what you spend your time reading and browsing and don’t be a slave to social media and enter the tunnel of being what social media exposes you to through your browsing history and what their fancy search engine algorithms trap you into. You order what you want to be fed with rather than the other way round.

Social Media was invented to ease your life. Don’t let it become your way of life!

Jack of all social media sites, Master of Dumb?!

When you spend most of your time on social media browsing information regardless of the authenticity, endless hours of binging on someone’s Social media posts with no go to action, it leaves you exhausted, brain dead and de motivated.

Why is our generation loosing the flair to pick up a conversation with someone over a good article or news? Is it because Google answers most of our queries?

Let me know what you think?

What’s truly yours?

You take birth, your parents decide to bring you up by giving you what’s theirs

Your body ain’t yours either, it was created by your parents

You grow up believing it’s your right to claim what they have earned and saved

You want their time, attention and everything they once held dear

Now that you have it by fair means or foul; Is it truly yours?

You make friends, colleagues, lovers and acquaintances along the way

You love them along the way, hold them close only if you have it your way

You part when thing go awry

A gush of memories pass by if you cross paths

Only to be held back by what parted your hearts

Now that you are alone, were these people truly yours?

Moving on you marry one or two destiny has in store for you

A person you can call your own till death do you apart

Bound by children, grandchildren, a home and society

A large part of life that instills the most meaning

A vicious cycle of giving love, only to realise you got back far less over time

Time-tested love is what you got, was this truly yours?

You spent life collecting things to pass on to your next

Only to realise your body is now old

When your calling finally arrives, you need an answer to:

Was it a complete life?

Your mind which was truly yours all along will have an answer to that

That my dear is what your soul takes away to the next.

Salaam Namaste culture in India

How often in your life do you dream of being a politician or an officer of high rank in India and wish people recognize you in public and salute you? If you haven’t thought of it, take a moment and dream of yourself sitting inside a car passing through the city and have a police man do the salute and people watch you in awe. Now did that make you feel good, did it boost your self esteem? I assume at least 90% of us would like to be recognized in the society or have some one do the Salaam Namaste salute to you.

Every morning when I would leave home for work; I would watch a few VIP cars get the special treatment and at first I hated the whole thing and found it bothering me. But later, it struck me that it’s quite a task for one to deserve the special treatment.

I’m sure politicians in India need to do a lot to get recognized in the society. Typically spend huge party funds on putting up the banners and hoardings carrying the “well-wishers” photos, celebrate birthdays with them and what not. I’d say I would not know who our local political leaders are if not for these purposeless banners. Why put up their faces, what good do these hoardings do to the general public? I bear the opinion that they mess up even the best roads and turn the look and feel of these roads for the worst. Post passing by these banners, I’d dare say I remember any of their faces for the simple reason that my brain can’t process so many faces nor do I find these people actively doing anything for the general good or should I say I’m too busy not being among the public to know anything they contribute towards nation building.

If this is what is enough in India for a VIP to get a Salaam namaste, I don’t have much confidence in the leadership our country has. To me, I am not for hoardings and banners being politically themed, if one cannot do away with that, I would rather have new policies and schemes that the government has implemented or will implement. Through this, our public and millennials in specific will have more general awareness. That’s nation building my dear VIPS. That’s how You get a genuine Salaam Namaste!

Mr.Moti vs Mrs.Persi

Everybody comes across the vicious cycle of reflecting on one’s life, be it your personal life, weight loss program, career etc. Upon carefully evaluating your life, you finally feel the immediate need to change, your next step is to get on to google, shopping websites, job portals and spend the next 2-3 hours researching on the the pain point. At the 4th hour, you may take a next step to set an alarm, update your calendar, speak to your close ones on your plan of action. Listen to feedback’s, thought process of the person you are discussing with and next get lost on cloud confusion. At the 9th hour, get back to where you were. “Watta waste of time and energy” you think  and your back to square one. Sounds familiar? Well I bet ya!

How to stay motivated?

Any decision worth taking in your life all comes down to what YOU want/need. You alone need to sit down and access your current situation, the pros and cons of your decision for you alone will be the one facing the aftermath of that decision. Since you are the one who needs that change, the impact of the decision may affect one/few. Before you feel the need to discuss anything with others, make Level 1 of the decision alone. Motivation kicks in only when your MIND knows what you want.

Level 1 :

List down and reflect on your life/situation.

Analyse what are the pros and cons of what you are reflecting on.

Focus on how that decision will impact your life in the next 1 week.. 1 month.. 1 year.. 5 years.

Be aware of what could happen if you don’t change your situation today

Who are the people who will be impacted

Finally, do you really need to discuss this with people who don’t matter?

WHAT are you deciding on TODAY?
